12 Month Tag Waiver
The county clerk is a constitutional officer who is elected for a four year term. In addition to issuing license plate registrations, the county clerk issues business licenses, marriage licenses, county beer permits, notary public at large commissions and passports. The county clerk also handles conservatorships, guardianships and the probating of estates (wills). As clerk of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners, the County Clerk also keeps official minutes and records of the activities of the commission and the Rutherford County Beer Board.

Starting in January 2021, the TN Department of Revenue will send postcards to motor vehicle registrants to remind them of upcoming renewal dates. The postcards will replace traditional letters.
