Tennessee License Plate Renewal – In Person

Please comply with the following to renew a Tennessee license plate in person:

Please Note: You may not receive a license plate renewal notice from the Tennessee Department of Safety. You may remit your last year's license plate registration receipt in lieu of the state renewal notice. Verify the following information on the license plate renewal form or license plate registration receipt:

• Serial Number (VIN)
• License Plate Number
• Make, Year and Model of Vehicle
• Name
• Address

Please Note: Information on license plate renewal form or license plate registration receipt must match information on Emissions Certificate.

License Plate Renewals Fees

A $2.00 mailing fee must also be included in addition to the license plate renewal.
License plate renewal fees are as follows:

Commercial License Plates (H-1) - $107.25
Commercial License Plates (H-2) - $162.75
Farm/Joint License Plates (J-2) - $94.05
Farm/Joint License Plates (J-3) - $166.65
Military License Plates - $24.00 Active Duty Only.
Must remit copy of front and back of military card and a copy of current active duty orders to be exempt from county wheel tax
Emissions or Emissions exemption (See Emissions for instructions)
Motorcycle License Plates - $44.50
Personalized License Plates - $112.50
Regular License Plates - $76.50
Specialty License Plates - $112.50

Check Policy

• Check must be made payable to Georgia Lynch, County Clerk

• Out of state checks not accepted, unless drawn off a locally affiliated bank

• Name and address must be pre-printed on check

• Home and work telephone numbers must be pre-printed or written on check

• Counter checks not accepted

• Two-party checks not accepted

For your convenience an ATM is located in hallway of the Murfreesboro office.
