Legal Name Change

An attorney must first be retained to apply for a Legal Name Change. The attorney will prepare a Petition and Order explaining the reasons why a change of name is desired and will also make an appointment with one of the General Sessions Judges to hear the request for the Legal Name Change.

The person applying for Legal Name Change is required to file the Petition and Order of Legal Name Change with the Rutherford County Clerk once the General Sessions Judge has signed the Order.

The person applying for Legal Name Change is also required to pay court costs in the amount of $154.85 to the Rutherford County Clerk upon filing the Petition and Order for Legal name Change.
