The Solid Waste Department provides solid waste and recycling collection areas. The collection areas are for the use of Rutherford County residents only. The department operates fourteen Convenience Centers throughout the county and provides recycling and waste collection and transportation service for all the county and city schools.
Limited disposal services are provided by the operation of a Class III/IV, construction and demolition waste, landfill. The Rutherford County Landfill also accepts off the rim waste tires and brush.
Recycling services are coordinated by the department. The department operates a recycle only site within this county. Haley Road accepts electronic waste for recycling on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Television & Computer Monitor Disposal
Effective Tuesday, May 26, 2015 all citizens will be required to pay a disposal fee for televisions and computer monitors. This is due to the hazardous material content that must be disposed of properly. This is the fee that the County is charged by the vendor for proper disposal; the County does not profit in any way from the fee. All other electronics, either with an electric cord or battery operated, are disposed of free-of-charge.
The County provides a small crew to assist residents in unloading electronic waste at the recycling center located at 1140 Haley Road in Murfreesboro. Electronics are collected each Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The center is closed each Friday and Sunday.
The fee structure for televisions and computer monitors is as follows:
