Insurance – Frequently Asked Questions

Would there be a circumstance or situation when our Cigna medical covered dental procedures?
Yes, benefits are available for the removal of impacted teeth (wisdom teeth) or are the result of an accidental injury to the jaw, natural teeth, mouth or face.
Do I need a Referral before going to a specialist?
No, over coverage does not require a referral, however, a procedure or benefit may not be covered if the specialist is out of network.  You can find providers that are in network by going to www.mycigna.com for an up-to-date list.
What are the names of the Labs that are covered at 100%?
The current labs are Quest Diagnostics & Labcorp.
At what age does medical coverage for my dependent children terminate?
Subject to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act guidelines dependent coverage ends at age 26.
What is meant by pre-existing conditions or exclusions?
As a new employee, there will be a (6) month or (18) month for Late Enrollments. A Pre-existing exclusion is a waiting period in which benefits would not be covered for any illness or condition that you have been treated for previously; the only benefit that is not included in this exclusion would be pregnancy. Pre-existing can be waived if a Creditable Coverage Certificate is received. That will show when insurance coverage began and ended through a previous insurance carrier; if there has not been a lapse in coverage for more than 63 days. The coverage would have to reflect (6) months previous coverage for New Employees and at least (18) months for Late Enrollees.
When can I enroll in the Health or Dental Benefits?
New employees must enroll within 30 calendar days of their hire date. If you do not enroll within this timeframe, you will have to wait until the next annual open enrollment period in October of each year. Open enrollment elections will be effective January 1st of the up coming year. If you experience a Life Event change, you can enroll within 30 days of the qualifying event such as marriage, divorce, death, birth, adoption or loss of coverage. This will be considered a Special Enrollment with the appropriate documentation.
Do I have an HMO, POS or PPO?
