My name is Jeff DeGennaro and I am a deputy for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in the School Resource Officer (SRO) Division. I am assigned to two schools: Cedar Grove Elementary and Rock Springs Elementary. I’ve been a Deputy with Rutherford County since January 2001. Prior to that I worked for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer.

A School Resource Officer is a certified police officer who is assigned full time to a school. For this, SROs receive many hours of ongoing specialized training. The involvement of SROs extends far beyond the classroom and normal workday. SROs participate in parent-teacher and faculty meetings, student social and sporting events, and club projects. The presence of SROs tends to strengthen the student/police bonds that make school a safer environment.

I am dedicated to the students, staff and parents of my schools. I am in my schools to protect and act as a liaison between government and its citizens. I use the tried and proven “triad plus one” approach with my students. I’m law enforcement, informal counselor, teacher and role model.
