In my 28 year career, I have worked in all aspects of Law Enforcement, dispatcher, patrol, narcotics, detectives, supervision and SRO. In looking back, I can't remember any job that is as rewarding as being a School Resource Officer. I am currently assigned to Rockvale Elementary and Christiana Elementary Schools. I love this job and working with students, parents, teachers and administration. I hope to continue to support the children of Rutherford County in any way possible.

– Holiday Safety Tips –

Well the holidays are almost here. I know that there are lots of die hard shoppers that just can’t wait to get out there in the trenches and shop till you drop. With that in mind there here are a few safety tips to keep in mind.

  • Never leave your child in the car unless an adult is with them.
  • Remember where you parked your car. It is best to stay on the sidewalk next to the store and cross when you get to the isle you parked in. Never walk between cars in a crowded parking lot this provides concealment and opportunity for would be criminals.
  • Have your car keys in your hand when you leave the store. If some one approaches and tries to hurt you start yelling and screaming and draw as much attention as possible. You may even use a name like “John help me!” This would make the attacker possibly think you aren’t alone.
  • Take a shopping pal with you.
  • If at night, park as close to the store as possible in a well lit area.
  • Avoid carrying a pocketbook if possible. Carry cash and credit cards in a wallet that will easily fit in your pocket.
  • If you must carry your pocketbook most shopping carts have straps in the seat, hook the handles to these straps and make sure that the top is closed or zipped.
  • When using credit or debit and using a password, cover the pad so that no one can see your code.
  • Place all receipts in a safe place before leaving the checkout line.
  • Clean out your trunk or the back of your SUV to put packages in where they cannot be seen. If you have a SUV cover packages with a dark cloth.
  • If your credit card or debit card is stolen report it immediately to police.
  • Watch out for the scam artists. These people are professionals and could sell a snowball to an Eskimo. Avoid them or say no thank you and keep walking report the incident to police.
  • Report any activity that you feel is suspicious.

You probably won’t see me out on Black Friday I’ll be sleeping in and watching all the reports of chaos on the news. I will probably wait until the day before Christmas Eve to do my shopping. I can get it done when the pressure is on!

Have Safe and Happy Holidays!
