My name is Bill West and I am a Lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Dept. I have been employed with the department for 24 years and for the last 15 years I have been assigned to the School Resource Officer Division. Before becoming an SRO I had been assigned to the Patrol Division, Detective and Narcotics Division and was a member of the F.A.S.T. (Tactical)Team.
My first 8 years as an SRO I was assigned to Central Middle School and thoroughly enjoyed my role in working with students, their families and teachers. I believe strongly in the youth of today and even though “times have changed”, I still believe that our children are doing just fine. There are different challenges but as adults in their lives we have a great responsibility to lead them and help them grow into responsible adults.
I am now assigned as a substitute SRO and Field Supervisor. As of July 2008, I have rejoined the Board of Directors for the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) as the Region 6 Director. My duties as regional director involves liaison with the states of Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas.
